EMAIL SAFETY TEST

Hi

You were sent this email as part of your ICT lesson. There is no need to be worried.

Here are a list of things you can do to keep yourself safe when using emails:

  1. Don’t click on links in emails unless you know they are definitely okay.
  2. If it is a link from a social media website, your bank or other website you use then (where possible) go to the website from your browser rather than using the link.
  3. Look at the email address the email has come from – for example, if it says it from Facebook but the email address is a gmail.com then it unlikely to be safe.
  4. If you are in doubt, do not click on any links or open any attachments until you have checked they are safe. At school, you can ask your Honor, Matt or John for help.

What Were the Red Flags?

  • Suspicious sender address not ending in @youruniversity.edu.

  • Urgency and threats (e.g., “your account will be suspended”).

  • Links to external, unofficial websites.

  • Generic language (no personal or institutional context).

If You Clicked the Link:

Don’t worry — no personal information was collected. This was a controlled exercise. But take this as an opportunity to reflect and build better habits.

Tips to Stay Safe:

  • Never click links or download attachments from unexpected or suspicious emails.

  • Check the sender’s email address carefully.

  • When in doubt, contact the IT Support Team or your teacher directly.

Thank you for participating and helping to strengthen our university’s cybersecurity. If you have questions or want to learn more, please speak to your IT teacher or IT Support Team.

Stay safe.
